I've been trading for around two years now, although it's been an on-and-off journey. To be honest, I still consider myself a student of the markets rather than a professional trader.
Coming from a tech background, I naturally gravitated toward building and coding my own trading algorithms. At first, automation felt like the perfect solution. I thought if I could remove emotions from the equation, I could eliminate all the mistakes that were holding me back.
Reality had other plans.
Like many traders, I paid my tuition to the market. I blew accounts, chased bad trades, revenge traded after losses, overcomplicated strategies, and learned lessons the expensive way. Eventually, I turned to automation not because it was exciting, but because I wanted a system that could protect me from my own emotional decision-making.
One thing I never really did was join trading groups, Telegram channels, Discord communities, or paid mentorship programs. I've always been more of a lone wolf. I preferred learning through trial and error, research, charts, books, and screen time.
Recently, I started spending more time on Reddit, hoping to connect with traders who have been through similar experiences.
What I found was a mixed bag.
There are plenty of beginners asking questions, intermediate traders sharing ideas, and countless people claiming they've found the secret formula to success. Some offer genuine advice. Others seem more interested in selling courses, signals, or "the shortcut" to profitability.
It got me wondering:
Where are the traders who have actually made it?
Not the influencers. Not the marketers. Not the people posting screenshots of one lucky trade.
I'm talking about the traders who quietly built consistency over years and eventually reached seven figures.
The ones who turned trading into a real business.
How did you actually do it?
What changed in your journey?
Was there a specific breakthrough moment, or was it simply thousands of hours of chart time, discipline, risk management, and surviving long enough to develop an edge?
Because from where I'm standing, the more I learn about trading, the more it feels like the truly successful traders are the least visible people in the room.
So for those of you who have genuinely achieved significant success in trading:
How did you make your first million?
And if you're feeling generous...
Any spare change for a fellow market survivor? 😅
One lesson I've learned is that talking too much about your trading goals can create unnecessary pressure and outside opinions. It's often better to stay focused, work quietly, and let your results speak for themselves. Success is easier when you're focused on execution rather than validation. 📈💯🔥
