How to Choose the Right Prop Firm (Part 1) 🧵
The prop firm industry has grown fast over the last few years. While that has created more opportunities, it has also brought a lot of misleading marketing and unrealistic promises.
Before I explain what to look for, here's something important.
A prop firm gives traders an advantage. It provides access to more capital and creates opportunities that many traders wouldn't have on their own. But because new firms are appearing almost every week, you need to be careful about who you trust.
The first thing I want to talk about is improvement.
Some prop firms advertise things like "no strict rules" or "trade however you want." While that sounds attractive, ask yourself one question:
Will this help me become a better trader over the long term?
Not every relaxed rule is a bad thing, but a good prop firm should encourage discipline, consistency, and risk management—not bad habits.
At the same time, avoid firms that have so many restrictions that they make trading unnecessarily difficult. Too many rules can limit your growth just as much as too few.
The first thing I personally look at is the time limit.
If a prop firm requires you to pass a challenge within a fixed number of days, that's a major red flag for me.
Time limits often push traders to force trades, increase risk, and abandon their trading plan just to beat the deadline.
Good trading requires patience. Rushing usually leads to poor decisions.
This is just the first point.
In the next thread, I'll cover more factors I use when choosing a prop firm before spending a single dollar.
