I have been day trading for about three years now, so I can give you a real honest breakdown.
Year one was rough. I lost around $4,200. I was overtrading, chasing setups I did not fully understand, and letting emotions run the show. Looking back, I was basically paying tuition to the market.
Year two was the turning point. I got serious about journaling every single trade, stuck to a strategy I actually tested, and most importantly I learned to walk away when the setup was not there. I ended that year up about $8,700. Nothing life changing, but it proved to me that consistency beats gambling.
Year three is where things started clicking. I focused on risk management above everything else. I never risk more than 1 to 2 percent of my account on any single trade. I finished the year up around $14,500.
So total across three years I am up roughly $19,000. Not a fortune, but it covers my rent and groceries every month now.
My honest advice for anyone starting out is this. Do not expect to make money in your first six months. Focus on learning, keep your position sizes small, and treat every loss as a lesson. The traders who blow up their accounts are the ones who skip the learning phase and go straight for big profits.
If you are just starting, I would love to help answer any questions. We all start somewhere.
